UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE - G.C.E. ORDINARY LEVEL
INTRODUCTION Cambridge qualifications are recognised world-wide as evidence of significant educational achievement which satisfy admission requirements of most colleges abroad for pursuing higher studies.
Royal Institute is one of the pioneers in preparing students for London A/Level examinations. The higher education wing of Royal Institute, Royal Institute of Colombo, offers courses leading to internationally reputed degrees of the University of London.
Royal Institute with well-qualified and experienced teachers provides quality education. There is an ideal environment for studies with a modern computer laboratory, well equipped science laboratories and a clean and well ventilated purpose built-modern classrooms.
The Institute has a large and well stocked library which can be used for private study and borrowing. The library is generally kept open on all weekdays
The Institute also offers a wide range of extra-curricular and co-curricular activities and maintains the highest level of discipline.
DURATION AND TIME SCHEDULE This is a two-year full time course beginning in September each year. Normally classes are from 8.00 a.m to 1.30 p.m on all weekdays. The Institute reserves the right to change the time schedules with prior notice to students.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Admission Test Students who have studied upto Grade 9 locally or the equivalent in a foreign country are eligible to apply. However, students are required to sit a simple test on the results of which the Institute will either reject or admit a particular student depending on his/her performance in the test. An above average knowledge of English is essential.
Age – should be below 16 years
SUBJECT COMBINATIONS AVAILABLE Students should offer a minimum of six subjects for this examination and may select subject combination A or B.
COMBINATION (A) COMMERCE Commerce, Accounting, Economics, English Language, Mathematics, Computing Studies, French, English Literature, Sinhala, Geography, Business Studies
COMBINATION (B) SCIENCE Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English Language, Mathematics, Computing Studies, French, Accounting, English Literature, Sinhala, Geography
COURSE FEES
Monthly fees should be paid before the 10th of each month. A surcharge of 5% will be levied if the payment is delayed by one month.
If a student wishes to leave the Institute, notice of such leaving should be given in writing one month (30 days) prior to the date of leaving. Students who fail to do so will forfeit the refundable deposit.
UNIFORM Students should wear the college uniform with black shoes when attending classes. New entrants should obtain the relevant voucher from the school Secretary and purchase their uniforms from the school.
APPLICATION FOR ENROLMENT All applications for enrolment should be made on the relevant form (obtainable from the Institute office) together with two stamp sized photographs and photocopies of the following documents.
A character certificate/leaving certificate from the Head of the previous school should be submitted along with the duly completed application form for enrolment.
